Come learn about your rights and responsibilities as a landlord under federal, state, and local fair housing laws. This free 1.5 hour workshop is tailored to small landlords and will provide an overview of housing providers' responsibilities under applicable fair housing laws, including the federal Fair Housing Act.
Topics will include:
• Protected classes and covered transactions
• Reasonable modifications and accommodations for people with disabilities
• Discriminatory harassment
• Advertising and marketing
• Pre-tenancy: ensuring that your application and screening processes are non-discriminatory (including information about criminal background screening policies)
• Obligations under the Louisiana Violence Against Women Act (LaVAWA).
The presentation will include case studies and best practices tailored to the needs and experiences of
small landlords.
The workshop will be held April 2, 2019 at 5:45pm at the Mid-City New Orleans Public Library (4140 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70119).
